A garden fork is one of the most useful items you can have in your garden. Use it to start moving the soil when the ground is too hard for digging with a shovel, and for turning your compost.
Garden forks aren’t the same as pitchforks. Garden forks are shorter and thicker.
Look for a fork with a solid handle and tynes made of hardened steel that won’t bend easily. If your fork has a wooden handle, keep it in good condition by applying linseed oil. Never leave your garden fork outside when you’re not using it.
After each use, clean dirt and mud off with a hose and scrub with a brush if needed, then disinfect the fork with a solution of 2% bleach/98% water. Dry the tool thoroughly and put it away indoors.
