How many species of palms are there?

There are more than 200 genera and about 2,800 species of palms in the world. Palm trees are found in almost all of the warm parts of the world.

Palms belong to the plant family Aracaceae, the only family in the order Arecales. The word areca is thought to originate from Malayam, a southern Indian language that closely resembles Tamil. Here is a picture of some Malayam text. Isn’t it beautiful to look at?
